Combustion air

In reply to natural gas smell at end of heating cycle Trane XE 90 furnace by DWAIN IN MN on February 13th, 2003 10:16 AM [Go to top of thread]

If you taped up your openings lately, the problem got worse. Heating units need to purge the combustion gases out of the house after firing. If your house is too tight, it can not get in or out. Is there an opening next to your heaters or in the same room that lets combustion air come in? A furnace does not manufacture air - and you use oxygen to breathe. Tape it up and you have a problem.
