Code issues

Vern, there are some code issues to consider for your safety and for the safety of others. One issue is that you cannot have a space bigger than 4 inches wide. Would your vinyl meet this?

The other thing may not be specifically spelled out, but is the vinyl strong enough to hold someone from bending it right over. A railing that doesn't have enough strength to prevent someone falling over it is almost more unsafe than none at all.

While you might be considering just yourself and maybe your immediate circle of friends in your decision, you need to be thinking about unexpected visitors, future owners of your house, and similar occurances. You might be in good physical shape yourself, but you too could need the restraint of a good strong railing someday.
