Clothes Dryer tripping breakers

Posted by Joe on November 2nd, 1999 09:09 AM

My electric dryer is tripping it's breaker constantly. I am not sure if it is something in the dryer gone bad or my electrical. The drum continues to turn and blows air, but the breaker in on my electrical panel trips. Apparently there are two breakers that control the dryer's line -- i never knew that.
I have cleaned the air vents intake and the exhaust duct work. I also removed the back and cleaned around the termostats - still no good.
The only thing different in my house is that I replaced a ceiling light fixture in the foyer and I attached the the ground from the fixture to the house ground rather than the crossbar on the junction box. Could that have screwed up the electrical and cause the dryer to trip it's breaker? I thought that's what the ground wire in the house wiring was for.
Please, any assistance, suggestions and advice would be welcome. Do I start with a dryer service call?
