Clothes Dryer & New Question

I'm in the South and every house I've ever lived in had the dryer vent emptying to outside. I guess there's not much worry about it getting blocked by snow. So I'm glad to know that it is not unheard of for it to empty into the garage and the knee high at the end of the hose sounds like it might work just fine. Only concern is that the blown ceiling in the garage might crumble to the ground. It's already doing that in some places so maybe this wouldn't be such a bad thing.

Next question, how do I go about closing up the existing vent hole? I'm thinking it would have to be completely dry before closing up and then I worry about mold growing there or some kind of radon gas leaking in.

Thank you all for your ideas. You've been very helpful!
