Grease and oil should be saved and recycled. It does build up in you main line. There are two thing you can do to prevent clogs. One is to use an enzyme drain cleaner which eats up grease and biodegradeable products, the other is to use a root destroyer. If you use, both as a maintenance item, you will not have problems. Neither are cheep solutions, but digging up your yard is a more expensive one.
