The floor of the church in front of the altar is crab orchard stone and was put in placea about 1930. It is dirty and discolored; a few steps are chipped just at the right angle where the tread and riser meet. I am not sure what has been applied in the past to either preserve or clean the stone.

Can you suggest how to test the stone to see what, if anything, is already on it? Depending on what could have been applied (perhaps wax or . . . ?)what needs to be done first, next, etc.?

What must we NOT DO?

Thanks for any suggestions. Susan Creed
