From the back yard you take stairs down to the basement. This is an area open to the outdoor elements. At the bottom of the stairs is a wood door that is the entrance to the basement. When you open the door, immediately in front of you is the floor drain that accepts the incoming water. The bottom of the wood door is less than an inch from the ground and there is no thresh hold so when it rains water runs into the basement. The floor drain is sufficient to keep the water from collecting anywhere else in the basement (of course with the exception of right next to the door). I was thinking of installing a floor sweep(?) but was wondering what would happen to the water.
