Would like some information on rebuilding a Chimney. The previous owners of my house had a leak around the chimney and other roofing woes and decided to tear part of the chimney down and build the roof over the top of it. I would like to rebuild it. Where do I start?. This is something I will do myself so don't recommend a contractor. I have experience with brick laying and some masonry skills, but have never worked on a chimney. What should I look for, the structure under the roof is in sound condition, and there is wood framing around it (my guess is it is for the roof sheeting rather than structural). It looks as if the stucture was knocked down to meet the slope of the roof, do I knock it down to horizontal, or can it be rebuilt from the slope up. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
