I by no means am an expect but most of the heat leaving the chimney is heat vented from your furnace and putting in a chimney linner would not stop that. The only heat a linner would stop would be heat going through your walls and then up the chimney. If you have an older furnace you might want to consider replacing it with a self venting furnace and then closing off the chimney. Consider this only if you get no other replies
