Chemical stripper vs. exterior paint

Posted by Margaret Fite on February 23rd, 2003 01:19 PM

After trying several different brands/types of chemical stripper on our interior trim, we selected Kleen-Strip and we've been happy with its performance. I just tried using this product on a door that has several layers of exterior paint on one side, and was surprised to find it not effective at all. I can't figure out why this would be, but am mostly interested in knowing whether there is a chemical stripper that works well on exterior paint - or is a heat gun the way to go with this? Don't know whether it makes a difference, but we're dealing with a century of paint layers here (most of it lead based).
