I don't know of any home kits, but I haven't really looked hard for them (I know there are home lead paint kits), since I know for a fact that I have a small amount of asbestos pipe insulation in my 90 year old place.

I'm going to be checking a funky siding that is living under my vinyl in the future. To find a place, I looked on the EPA's website and found a list of companies that do testing. Most do them within a few days and only require that you send them a small sample in a baggie or film canister. The cost in the Washington DC area is $40 minimum. The cost goes up for multiple samples or rush services. Most reputable labs will send you a report as well so that you can post it if you are doing renovations (if it is negative) or provide it to the next owner. If positive, it becomes a whole lot more complicated of an issue to remedy.
