Propane would work fine, but whether you are allowed to install it, and the specifications for installation are known to your building permit department. Call them and ask. I'm sure if there is no restriction on your property they can tell you the type of propane storage that will be required as well and any fire code and ventilation requirements that apply. You can take that information to the stove/fireplace dealer.
