Sounds like you should have an electrician check it out. I'm not sure why your box would have red wires (red=hot) going into the same bar with the white bars. The grounding bar should have green or bare wires (not red)for bonding to water pipes and a ground rod.

That said, the red and black go to the breaker. If your box has a separate bar for the white/neutral/grounded wire and a separate bar for the bare/green/grounding wire then the white goes to the white bar and the ground wire goes to the grounding bar. If the panel only has one bar with both white and ground wires together, then go ahead and put them in together on that one bar.
