I've had a live green for 11 years. I have installed live greens for many other people. Not one has lasted more than 7 months due to high maintenance. (owner were not ready for the lessons in agronomy, cutter costs, water costs, you get the picture.) I installed a synthetic green for a client and the results were amazing. There is no concrete, only compacted crushed stone. The surface is running at an 11 on the stimp. It will hold a shot from 186 yds and in. Very little maintenance. I will never put in a live green again. The cost if you do it yourself can be kept under $3.00 a sq.ft. Compare that with $12-$28 a sq.ft. for a green built to USGA specs. There are several good sources for the turf, I am just one of them. Check it out. TOURGREEN.COM. Good Luck! CJ P.s. I depend on my synthetic green to help keep my handicap under 8!
