I had to buy a home in a hurry last winter (in a great neighborhood) and am currently stripping tan paint off of bricks. I am about half-way done with this horrible job. Now I have found a nice solid color stain for the plywood siding above the stripped brick which was a difficult color match. My problem is that the house has an ugly light brown asphalt shingle roof. The roof is in good shape and I would like to avoid reshingling it just to fix the color scheme. I am considering painting it to get by until it needs reshingling. I know this is not the best solution but probably the most affordable one for now. I was thinking about applying dark paint with some sort of tool or sponge to speckle the shingles and give the appearance of a normal shingle. I just need to get by for another 5 years or so. Anyone with experience related to this?
