We are finishing our fireplace with a wooden surround and mantel with ceramic tile surrrounding the fireplace opening and on the top of the hearth. The sides of the hearth will be drywall covering the concrete block. My question is this- should we bring the ceramic tile all the way out to the edge of the hearth, overlapping the drywall? Will it be strong enough? Is there a better way to do this? Thanks.
