Ceiling water stain.

Posted by Bill on November 4th, 2002 01:12 PM

I have a two story house in south Florida build about 5 years ago. On the kitchen ceiling on the first floor there is a water stain forming that seems to be following the joint of one of the sheets of drywall. Itís about 2 inches wide and started down one seem of the drywall, and now appears to be starting down the other side of the same sheet. You can make out the outline of the 4x8 sheet of drywall. The stain isnít real dark, kind of a light brown. After many complaints from my wife, I decided to cut into the ceiling in the area of the leak. Now that I can look into the ceiling I donít see anything that is wet or dripping. The bathroom is directly above this area, and when I turn on the faucets, I donít see anything leaking. Iím thinking the water spots are actually caused by condensation. Is there an easy way to fix this, like putting a vent or an exhaust fan in the ceiling to vent out the moisture?
