Ceiling fan with light kit wiring question

Posted by Steve P. on December 25th, 2002 01:33 PM

I just had my screen porch converted into a room for computer room. The contractor took down the ceiling fan. I was going to reinstall after I painted the new ceiling and walls. Now I am confused about the wiring. I have two switches in the house that will turn the lights and fan on before. From the junction box, I have a black (hot lead), white (common), a red (question mark lead) and a ground lead. I understand the leads from the fan kit. I just don't understand the four leads from the power sources. No other fan in the house has four lead coming to the juction box. I believed this one is that way becausee of the two switches in the house to control the fan.

Can you help me understand these leads.
