Ceiling fan switch wiring

I have an old Hunter Ceiling fan and I cannot get it to work. I just hung it and in the process of putting in the light kit, some of the wires came out of the switch. Please help.
Here is what I have:
The switch has three places for wires labeled, "L ,1 and 2" (I think this is a two speed fan/switch).
Then I have four wires...A black, white, red and blue. The black is attached to load from the wall switch and the white is the neutral from the wall.
I know the fan works, because I tested it some time ago when I first got the fan. Also, I have power to the fan wires. (I hooked up the light with those leads and it works). Also, I tested the fan switch for continuity, so I am reasonably sure that the switch works.
I think I just need to know the order position to put the wires into the fan switch. Also, how can I test the fan to see if something internal is not working?
