ceiling fan motors

Joe, ceiling fans are normally DC motors, I believe. They run off AC, but the AC is changed to DC, probably with a bridge rectifier. DC motors don't care which way they run and can also be changed into generators. Turning the shaft of a DC motor will generate electricity. All this is a long way to say "It depends."

If you fan motor really is a DC motor, then there probably is a way to do it by putting a reversing switch somewhere in the circuit. If it is a true AC motor, then no.
