The wires that connect to the switch are BOTH Hot wires even tho one is white (it should be re-marked as a black hot wire).......In another post you mention a red wire also .....that is an additional switch leg to power the fan if you wanted to add the additional switch..............

OK........Let's Connect the grounds and all the metal boxes together.........

The WHITE Power wire from the ceiling connects to the fan White wire...( and also the light white wire...usually only one )

The BLACK Power wire from the ceiling connects to the Fan Black wire and the WHITE wire that connects to the switch.....This is a switch leg that carries the power to the switch and is required to be re-marked as a Black wire(tape or permanent marker)

The remaining BLACK wire from the switch carries power to the Light and is attached to the Blue( or combo-blue-something) at the fan/light........

Wire-nut the red/switch wire both ends..........

BE CAREFUL.......Trying "every combination" can be VERY dangerous.....The important thing here is that a particular "combination" may operate the system but could put your life at risk..........Get a simple book on basic wiring and get familiar with How things work...........
