Around and around. Sorry Steve, couldn't help that. The theory is that it should blow the warm air down in the winter and pull the hot air up in the summer. The reality is that I like the way the one in the bedroom blows air down on me in the summer, so that's the way mine is year around. It doesn't really matter that much in a small fairly closed off room since it will set up a convection current and just keep the air circulating and the temperature uniform. In a big open room, I would have it pulling up in the summer and pushing down in the winter.
