It isn't too hard. Make sure the breaker is off and check each wire with a voltage meter to be sure. The rest will need more info so describe to me all wires, their color, and how they are grouped together in sheathed electrical cable or conduit for the switchbox and the ceiling junction box and which ones are connected together in the box. Tell me if any white wires have black tape on them. Then tell me what color wires you have coming out of the ceiling fan. Also look to see if there is another switch making both of them 3-way switches.
