My wife and I are currently building a new home. Originally, we decided that we would combine cedar lap siding with manufactured stone for the facade. Our property is heavily wooded, and unfortunately, we're in an area of heavy infestation of carpenter bees. After reading up a bit on these nasty little devils, we're now concerned that cedar may not be the best choice!
Already, we've seen at least a 1/2 dozen nests chewed into our framework - what's the chance that these little visitors will do the same to the proposed cedar siding??? The last thing we need is to spend 10K in siding only to have it destroyed by the bees, and the woodpeckers who love to tear into anything that sounds like a 'chewing insect'! I'm certain that vinyl is not in their diet, but does anyone have any ideas if these insects will tear into our cedar???
