Cedar Shingle Siding 101

Posted by Kinter on August 4th, 1998 07:56 AM

I am in the process of siding some short, 2' high knee walls of a screened-in porch with #2 grade Red Cedar Shingles. I first sheathed the 2x4 framed walls with 1/2" exterior grade OSB, and now I'm ready to start siding. Two quick questions:

1. Nobody at Home Depot knew what nail should be used with these shingles. They sold me 2" galvanized roofing nails, but I think the head is too big. What is the appropriate nail that shoule be used instead?

2. Before I begin the actual installation, should I first put a layer of felt paper onto the OSB? If so, is there any specific product that should be used?
