Cedar shingle Installation

Posted by Gaby Kafka on October 6th, 1999 09:57 PM

I'm installing western red cedar handsplit shakes as wall siding on my home.I need to know what type of fastener is suitable(hot galvanized, sst, aluminium, etc).
The dealer where I purchased the shingles recommended
hot galvanized roofing nails.I finished one side of the house with these nails using a roofing nailer. The result was good.I later learned(from different sources) that it may not be the best fastener to use.Using cedar shakes as siding is not common in Montreal,Quebec(Canada) so the builders and suppliers are not always knowledgeable about them.I need some advice.I have three walls left to complete and the weather is getting nasty. Thanks very much.
