Cedar Post Crawl Space to be replaced

Posted by Stephanie on December 24th, 2002 11:04 AM

Use to be a small capecod on a cedar post crawl built in the early 50's in Northern Illinois. An addition was added about 15 years ago which contains a basement and upstairs. The addition obviously being on concrete. During a home inspection, about 80% of all the wood in the crawl space has dry rot (fungi).
Inspector's note says that the crawl space should be replaced. The side that needs to be replaced is one level which only contains a sitting room/kitchen and bathroom. What are the negative aspects in doing this? Is it worth the money? The home is beautiful, and in perfect condition other than the rot.
