Hi folks! I'm getting ready to redo a garage-top deck with cedar planks. I know Moderator Steve feels strongly about using 2" cedar instead of the 5/4, but because of the cost I'm leaning toward the 5/4. I am going to be replacing the sleeper joists (joists that lay on garage roof) - they're 2X4 pressure-treated wood and so are cheap. Right now they're 16" O.C. supporting 2X6 PT wood decking. If I go with 5/4 X 6 cedar planking, how many inches between the joists do you recommend? Would 12" be overkill? I don't want the sponginess that Steve was afraid of with the 5/4.
