Hi, Bobi. Cedar will last a very long time outside with no care. An exterior stain will help it last but is really used as much for color as for protection. Based on that, it will last much longer inside and really doesn't need any maintenance. It probably will turn gray over a long period but that is normal. It really doesn't need any oil and the rough finish does not lend it well to taking a shine. Just sweep or vacuum the dust every so often. If you want to apply a stain like one of Minwax's Pastels, just for the color, that would be OK but remember that it is very difficult to lighten a stain later so be sure that you will be satisfied before you make this move.
