If you have attic space above the ceiling I don't see why it can't be done. Getting a contractor who can do this job is important. You will also have to get a permit in most communities because of it being a structural change. You will have to have a way to hold the walls together for if you remove the ceiling joists it will weaken seriously the house. Consider using collar ties of a sort that can be placed up high onto the rafters. Putting in even temporary ones will help to keep things "together". Getting an architect to draw this one out for you is definately a good idea! Best of kuck.....Mark Hammond
