I recently lived in a small Victorian with a matching carraige house built around 1900. The carraige house suffered a fire while I lived there and I got an excellent idea of how they were constructed. When the carraige house was finally put to rest by a big yellow monster, a ground safe was found, dating to 1849. Unfortunatly all it had was a piece of burnt redwood 2x4 and about 2 ft of water. Because the burnt wood could not have gotten into the safe during the recent fire, the carraige house had burnt before. I would make some serious modifications to any design you build and shoot for fire resistant materials. :)
