Carpeting in a bathroom ......opinions ?

Posted by Meg on December 31st, 2000 11:36 PM

I have carpeting in my bathroom. The house is on a foundation, 2 floors (sub floor I think it is called), standard carpeting padding and standard plush type carpet. The carpeting is stained in front of the shower black moldy stains, the carpet cleaner said it was from using a rubber back mat, I stopped that.

Well after hearing these reports of slimy black mold being discovered after pulling up carepeting I am concerned. And have read some of these things on the board. I have also been sick so much, and have developed allergies. I am concerned.

THe builder assures me that because the house has a well ventilated crawl space under it there is sufficient air to dry the moisture.

Is there a strong enough possibility of this being dangerous for me to take the risk of pulling the carpeting up and taking a look?

If that is the case, does the entire wood have to be replaced? Also what is the best flooring for a bath to be safe?

Thanks so much, Meg
