Carpeting glued to Tiles over concrete

Jan, I had a similar problem, except I discovered that some of the tiles around the perimeter of the room were loose. And some seemed to be glued with an "atomic" strength adhesive. Rather than a messy cleaning of the remaining tiles, I chose to remove them. I was advised to rent a "tile stripper" from the local contractors tool rental place. It was an electric motor driven jack hammer of sorts, with about a six inch blade set at a shallow angle to the floor. It had a long handle and wheels. You set the blade against the edge of the tile, turned on the switch and held on for dear life. In about two hours all of the floors tiles in a 400 square foot basement room were in garbage cans, and we had a bare concrete floor to work with.
I am not a pro, just a determined do it yourself-er; and I hope my experience is useful to someone.
