Carpet advice

Posted by Rith P on June 15th, 2000 09:35 PM

1) Can jute and woven plastic backing scratch paint (i.e. car paint), especially when the carpet is tightly rolled in a bundle? Does it depend on whether the backing is new or old?

2) Is there a proper way of rolling old carpet after removing it? Should the carpet be rolled inward and under so that the backing remains inside and the carpet side stays on the outside of the bundle? I was told that this is the way to do it because it will keep dust and dirt trapped in the backing from spilling out and getting the installer dirty.

3) Are new carpets typically rolled with the backing on the outer side of the bundle for easier installation?

4) Is it adviseable to just cut old carpet into smaller pieces for disposal, instead of rolling it?
