Can I paint over a Black Finished Oak Dresser?

Posted by GK on June 30th, 1999 01:42 PM

I have some old bedroom furniture with a black finish. When it was new, it was a trendy style, but now it looks too dark. Rather than toss it, can I repaint the pieces? If so, what type of paint is best? The furniture is not high gloss. It's just an satin-finished black enamel paint over oak veneer. If I can repaint it, what type of paint and or primer do I need? Is there anything else I need to know before stsarting the project? Would spray paints or primers work? Thx.
