Usually if the power goes out, you still have water pressure if you don't depend on a private well.
The limitation is in the power that can be utilized from this method. A regular sump pump is about 1/3 horsepower. In order to develop 1/3 hp with a water driven pump, you would have to have 10 gallons per minute available at a useable 70 psi. Most homes have about 4-5 gallons per minute available at around 40 psi. This would translate into about 1/10 horsepower.
The bottom line is, if you don't have to move a lot of water, a water driven pump can be very effective.
