The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (aka Prop 65) requires the Governor of CA to maintain a list of chemicals "known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm". Updated and published annually, this list now contains 38 chemicals, last I heard, and the law requires a warning notice on any product containing any of these chemicals. There is also a warning notice at the entrance to any store that sells or uses any product containing any of these listed chemicals.
Rather bureaucratic, it doesnt really tell you that these products are unsafe or that the exposure levels are harmful, just that one or more of these chemicals are present.
