I think that all would agree that spraying gives the best finish,but not all homeowners can do this. If you buy the best in materials, you can get a really good finish with a brush. If you use oil,I would, do at least two coats and lighty sand after each coat. Thin the paint a little more each time.{ Not to much.} Oil Paint levels itself. Prep work is the same as anything else. Clean, sand, and clean again. Remember To sand smooth any chiped areas. They will show. The more work invested, the better the finish. I sure hope this helps. Ron J. P.S. Don't forget to prime and sand.
