Hi Debbie,

Laminate can be a good choice. There are some drawbacks, scratches and chips are generally not repairable. Depending on the manfacturer can mean a number of things, ie- material quality and overall workmanship.
The two more popular cabinets are either cherry or maple. Another choice would be a thermofoil finish. Very easy to clean as well as durable.
