Jim , I just had to enlarge a window opening in my brick wall. I rented a gas-powered brick saw with a diamond blade ( $ 75/day) and 5 mins after touching the blade to brick ,I knew I'd made a mistake. The saw was taking too long and making too much dust ! What I ended up doing was to carefully break out the bricks with a hammer and chisel saving as many as I could. On the sides I used a small hammer-drill to remove the mortar between bricks and pull them loose. After I installed my new larger window I used my saved brick to fill in . My only regret is that I wish I'd taken more time matching my mortar.
