Here's 2 different ways, Rosalie. Be very sure that the power is off before doing either of these. The first it to take a potato (raw), push down with the potato on the broke light and turn it counterclockwise at the same time.

Since you might need all your potatoes for baking, another way is with needle nosed pliers. Push the nose into the broken base, spread the handles and turn them counterclockwise. This is a little less safe than the potato trick and you should turn the power off to the circuit at the braker box before you stick the pliers in. With either method, be careful of broken glass.

Good luck and you should not have a problem removing the lamp bases.
