Bricks cracking

Posted by BJ on May 14th, 2002 08:05 AM

I'm looking at buying a brand new house (still under construction). The house is situated about 40 ft from the road and about 5 ft above the road with the garage on the front side of the house. My concern is that there is a crack through the mortar AND two of the bricks over the center of the 16 ft garage door. The crack is going up from the metal piece. The door frame is level all the way across and I do not see any other cracks anywhere. Is it possible that the garage is sinking or did the brick mason just do a sloppy job supporting the door frame while it was setting up? Can it be fixed? How? Would you buy a house that had a problem like this? A lot of questions I know, but I really like the house, just scared of the potential of a moneypit. Thanks for your advice.
