My parents just installed a gas fireplace. I have no idea what they were thinking. The unit is okay but the surrounding fireplace is just horrible. It is totally made of black brick. It looks like it belongs in a barn back during the early 1950's in some european village. The opening of the unit sits up about 8" from the ground. The base if also made of black brick layed horizontally and is rounded at both ends. You can see something similair on www.kingsmaterials.com. The unit they installed also is not flush but rather sticks out at a 45 degree angle and both ends about 5 inchs. What can i use on the base if i cover the unit in wood. Oh yeah anther thing, it goes right up to the ceiling.
