brick cleaning

Posted by lisa on March 20th, 2001 09:54 PM

I recently purchased an 80 year old home and decided to remove one of the plaster walls in the kitchen and
replace with new wall. When I started hammering down
the old plaster, I discovered the the wall in the kitchen, is actually the back of our fireplace. I like the look of the exposed brick in the kitchen, However, the bricks have a thin coating of beige/grey " mortar" stuck to them. What can
I use to clean these bricks so that they can be repointed and then sealed?
