Bleeding air out of water lines

I had shut off my outside hose valves for the winter and followed the directions for bleeding them inside at each valve. Somehow air must have been retained. Every time I use any faucet, washing machine or toilet in the house I hear a pressure build up and release in the pipes over 10-15 sec.. The location varies in the house. Should I follow a previously posted message and turn off the main then open each faucet and flush all toilets then turn on the main then turn off each faucet lowest to highest in the house?
It is winter and do I need to worry about the outside faucets? thank you for your help
