Black grit!!

The problem sounds like sulfer water,That would produce a black grit especially in the hot water side.First if you have a water system in your home -when was the last time it was serviced?The carbon probably needs to be replaced.Second You need to by-pass the water system and chlorinate the lines,that means starting from the furthest water faucett let it run until you smell chlorine then shut and move on to the next.Do all tubs and sinks the same way.Let stand in line at least a few hours,Put the system back in service.After a few hours- again starting from the furthest faucett let it run hot and cold until you DONT smell any more chlorine,you will be surprised as to the amount of sulfer etc... will purge from the lines.Once this process is complete have your system maintained once a year for a carbon change.As far as the washer remove the hoses and check the debris screens on the washer hookup.
