Birdmouthing rafters

Posted by Michael Folks on December 5th, 2000 06:09 PM

Has anyone used the Simpson strong-tie connectors?
At the home center the manufacturer has a display showing the use of the H-1
connector. The rafter extends from the ridge board to the top of the top plate.
The connector mounts beneath the rafter on the face plate with nailing brackets along each side of the rafter.
I realize that by not cutting a birdsmouth the pitch of the roof will change slightly but, my concern is:
Will the new connectors give me a structurally sound and safe roof?
Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.
