bevel edge or floor header...

My personal preference is to just bevel the edge of the wood floor so it comes down to the level of the carpet over the width, or over half the width of the last oak strip. The other thing I do, it this is at a doorway or passageway (ie: you have a wall end on 1 or more sides of the transition) is make what I call a "floor header" This is a highly beveled piece of oak that spans the transition. You can get pretty creative with these and end up cusomizing them so that the transition is not obvious. It is pretty difficult to describe via typing, plus I can't see it.
