because I've had to deal with this issue before.Not just on roof sheating but on many other repair and replace work.

I have always asked the homeowner if it is an issue to replace with like or use a more updated material.To some it is, to some it is not an issue, if the material is up to spects or better than the material to be replaced(execpt issues of structural nature,then I opt for modern materials)

What your contractor is doing is puting a a "patch" on your roof where material has to be replaced.If plywood is used or like material(1x6 sheating)won't matter in this case(if plywood is same thickness)from the street,but in the attic you will see it as a patch no matter what material they use.

Structurally it is not an issue,but a clear conscience is the best pillow.Your call.Luck
