beefing up ceiling joists for storage

Posted by Phillip on December 29th, 2002 12:31 PM

How do you beef up a ceiling joist so I can lay
a flooring on it to add storage in my attic, My attic
has 2X6's on 16" centers as is for now, but I seen
where *** **** sujest to beef up the joist if they
are not at least 2X8's so how do I go about doing
this? glueing 2 more inchs to the top of them? any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also I plain
to put a plywood or some thing on the rafter top
to seal it in more, would I need to insolate that
as well plus leave an air channel of sorts between
each rafter for humidity to escape and or flow through
to the other side? I'm just plaineing to go as wide
as the brases in my attic. Any thing else that would
